Mobility. The key to take control of your joint health.

Many of you come to MBody Billings, to receive massage therapy for your joint pain. So, how can you practice injury prevention and pain management by focusing on healthy mobility to achieve stability? How do you keep your body functioning normally and optimally? At MBody Massage and Meditation we believe it starts with mobility. Working with our joints to ensure proper range of motion and control is essential to healthy aging and everyday movement.

Aging is something we all have in common. It’s going to happen to all of us and it’s only a matter of time. When you add injury, surgeries and a physically demanding job in the mix, well you get to deal with the consequences of aging early in life. One of the earliest signs of aging is losing joint mobility. When the joints of the body become unhealthy, it can present itself as pain and make movement more difficult. A lot of our lives depend on the ability to be mobile and when that’s gone, well life becomes so much less enjoyable.

What is mobility and stability?

Joint mobility refers to the movement around the joint. And we all need the ability to take a joint through its full potential of range of motion. Full range of motion equals a healthy joint. What happens when we don’t have that range of motion? We begin to lose joint stability. According to the American Council on Exercise, joint stability means having control. Joint stability is defined as the ability to maintain or control joint movement or position.

Why do we need both?

It’s essential to our well being that we have control over our movements. We can have full range of motion in a joint but if we have instability then our ligaments, tendons, and muscles surrounding our joints become weak, torn, overstretched and essentially stressed. Whether your job requires very little movement for long periods or you have a physically demanding job that overuses the joint, our bodies need to move in a health way to enjoy balance, alignment and overall well being.
